An extremely rare pedestal stem wine glass, having a round funnel bowl with solid base over a teared four sided pedestal stem which has diamonds on each of the four sides and a crown on the four shoulders, all on a folded conical foot.

Height 5 ins 12.7 cm

These very rare glasses with crowns are presumed to have been made to commemorate the coronation of King George Ist.

Around 12 or so parallels can be found in the literature with the most readily accessible being a section devoted glasses with similar stems in The Golden Age of English Glass by D P Lanmon FSA,
