Baluster Wine Glass

Baluster Wine Glass

C 1710/15

Item Ref: 898

An unusual baluster wine glass , having an uncommon wide cup bowl over an inverted baluster stem with tear and a basal knop , all on a folded conical foot.

Height 5 5/8th ins 14.4 cm

Cup bowl glasses such as this have been traditionally referred to mead glasses , however current thinking is that they would have been used with white wine , most cup bowls at this date would have a gadrooned bowl , the plain bowl is very uncommon and the thinly folded foot suggests the early date.
