A rare Milk glass tankard, probably made in Bohemia or Germany and decorated in coloured enamels for the Dutch market with Hansie sitting on a barrel having a drink along with the inscription , Hansie in de Kelder which translates to Jack in the celler, glasses with this inscription and images of various types were used by Dutch polite society to announce to assembled guests at a gathering that the hostess was pregnant ( ,along the same lines as the English expression of having a bun in the oven ) mostly seen on Dutch engraved light balusters, this is the first tankard I have encountered

Height 5 1/2 ins 14 cm ,

A superb example of a milk glass tankard with strap handle and rare decoration , in perfect original condition., (no handle cracks)
