French " Verre de Fougere " Wine Glass

A fine and large French wine glass in light amber colour having a round funnel bowl moulded to the lower half with eighteen ribs and honeycomb effect above,over a hollow stem, all on a plain conical foot.

Height 5 5/8th ins 14.4 cm ,

The collectors number on the foot suggests that this glass was formally in the Walter Smith Collection.

Despite what you may read online by other sellers claiming these to be rare 17th century wine glasses C 1680 , based on out of date and redundant information these glasses are very well documented and parallels can be found in ," Verre d'Usage et de Prestige " France 1500-1800 by J Bellanger p 484 and also in The Van Beek Collection," Passion for Glass" by Frides lameris Art and Antiques Amsterdam 2015.
