A Mead/White Wine Goblet

A Mead/White Wine Goblet

c1720

Item Ref: 176

A superb mead or white wine goblet with heavily gadrooned base to the bowl over triple annulated knop and basal knop all standing on a domed and folded foot .

Traditionally referred to as mead glassed it is now believed they were in fact produced for drinking Rhenish white wines, the incurved roemer type bowl being well documented as being used for Rhenish wines which were very popular in 18th c England,

A very fine and weighty example in immaculate condition, with a lovely feint bluish tint to the metal (probably from using cobalt as a de-colouriser)
