"Rare"Mead/White Wine Goblet

C 1690/1700

Item Ref: 336

A Superb large and early mead/white wine goblet having a rare everted cup bowl with basal gadrooning over a hollow cushion knop with inverted baluster and basal knop below, all on a folded conical foot.

Previously documented as mead glasses it is now thought that these were in fact made for the consumption of white wines, in particular Rhenish white wine which was very popular in England at this date.

An exceptional glass of larger than normal proportions for it's type with superb metal and weight and in perfect original condition.
